The Japanese Exquisite New Year Tradition

As the calendar turns to a new year, Japan celebrates with one of its most cherished and delicious traditions: Osechi. These beautifully arranged dishes, presented in elegant jubako (tiered lacquered boxes), are more than just a feast—they’re a symbolic expression of hope, prosperity, and togetherness for the year ahead.

Historically, Osechi dishes were made ahead of time to allow families to refrain from cooking during the first three days of the year, a time considered sacred.

Menu

This Osechi consists of 16 types of menu as below:

• Karei Saikyoyaki (flouder fish) / Ebi Shibani (prawn) / Datemaki (sweet rolled omelette) / Hotate Shougani (scallop) / Kazunoko Suppon kourazuke (herring fish roe) / Kohaku Kosodekamaboko (fish cake) / Kurikinton (sweet potato with chestnut) / Roast Beef
• Black bean / Ikura Shoyuzuke (salmon roe) / Tazukuri (small sardine)/ Hitokuchi Konbumaki (bite-sized kelp roll) / Kohaku Namasu (radish & carrot pickle) / Kaibashira Uniae (shellfish & sea urchin) /Hoshi Shiitake kanroni (shiitake mushroom) / Kani Shinjou (crab)

♣ How To Eat: Defrost in fridge for approximately 24 hours. Once you defrost, please eat as soon as possible.
